They are the invisible link in the chain. The back where a predatory model rests, the lumbago of mass tourism. The “Kellys”, from the Spanish term lasquelimpian for “women who clean”, hotel room maids, combine concepts that nearly always go hand in hand: migration, job insecurity, gender discrimination and efforts – sometimes extreme – to earn a living.
Kelly talks about this struggle and about its protagonists, their desires, their aspirations, their doubts and their certainties. All within the context of a labour strike that in the midst of summer threatens to bring to a halt the main – nearly the sole – industry of this corner of the world that is Mallorca.
