Rive Gauche (2011)

Author: Marc Rosich

Shakespeare&Co. and La Maison des Amis des Livres, the two bookstores on either side of the Rue de l’Odéon, were the centre of the literary life of Paris in the 1920s. A mysterious woman, using the forms typical to cabaret, introduces us to their founders and instigators, the peculiar partnership formed by American Sylvia Beach and Frenchwoman Adrienne Monnier. The appearance in their lives of James Joyce, whose famous Ulysses would be published by Sylvia, would end up eroding their relationship
